MondaySunday Recap: Vice Verses

My hubs continued in the Colossians series with a look at Colossians 3:8-11

Paul instructs the believers to deal with sin as seriously and as soon as possible...these vices include: anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene talk, lying.

  • Anger - simmering, long-lasting anger that leads to hatred
  • Wrath/Rage - quick, outbursts of rage
  • Malice - wishing evil to others, especially when it makes us feel good about ourselves
  • Slander - talk about others meant to tear down and ruin their reputation
  • Obscene Talk - filthy language, unholy talk
  • Lying - dishonesty {bold face lie and breaking commitments}

When Brian defined these vices, it helped me understand the difference between malice, wrath, and anger. At some point in your life, these vices will try to creep in and stay for a while.  Brian reminded us with sin it's, kill or be killed.  We have to be serious about being sin killers.  Only through the grace and power of God can we grow to be Spirit-controlled, trust Him with justice, and take our thoughts captive.  The world/media/people say it's okay to be mad, get revenge, start drama...but when our aim is to please the Lord we can't settle for the easy way out.
